Christmas Cookie Recipes for Your Dog

Recetas de Galletas Navideñas Para tu Perro

In December, we all crave something delicious, a little something extra, like panettone or hot chocolate. We're always thinking about what we can buy to eat and share at the table with our loved ones, but when we see our furry friends sitting next to us, their eyes gazing at us tenderly and asking for a piece of that sweet treat, we feel bad that we can't give it to them, not because we don't want to, but because we know it contains ingredients that are harmful to them and that they can't eat.

Therefore, so that you can include him in these family moments and share with him, we bring you three recipes for healthy and safe cookies that you can give him as a reward or treat when you want to spoil him a little.

Liver and beetroot cookie recipe

These biscuits are very nutritious and healthy for your dog, as liver is a rich source of iron, zinc, and B vitamins. And beets contain fiber for good digestion and intestinal transit.

For this dough you will need:

-       250g of wholemeal flour

-       75g of oat flour

-       1 egg

-       250g of cooked chicken liver

-       1 cooked and grated beetroot

-       30 ml of olive oil (two tablespoons)

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and start by mixing the flours with the egg. Then add the beetroot, oil, and liver. Blend everything very well so that all the ingredients are properly combined. Place the dough in molds or form small balls, flatten them, and bake for 15–20 minutes.

Apple and cinnamon cookie recipe

These biscuits provide fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants that aid digestion in our dogs. Apples contain fiber and vitamins (A and C) that are very beneficial for our dogs; and cinnamon, in controlled amounts, can help regulate blood sugar in diabetic or senior dogs, reduce inflammation associated with arthritis, combat fungi and bacteria, and improve digestion thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

For this second recipe, you will need:

-       250g of wholemeal flour

-       125g of oat flour

-       1 grated apple (peeled and seeded)

-       1 egg

-       12 grams of ground cinnamon (one teaspoon)

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). First, mix the flours, then the egg, and finally the apple and cinnamon until you have a smooth batter. Place it in baking pans and bake for 20-25 minutes.

Peanut Butter Banana Cookie Recipe

This mix is a perfect snack for our furry friends. Bananas are a source of fiber, potassium, and vitamins (B6, C) that improve digestion, strengthen bones, and boost the immune system; while peanut butter provides protein, healthy fats, and vitamins (A, E, B) that improve our pets' energy.

Here you will need:

-       250g of oat flour

-       125g of wholemeal flour

-       1 egg

-       2 bananas

-       100g of unsalted peanut butter (approximately 3 tablespoons)

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). In one bowl, mix the flours together. In another bowl, mash the bananas with a fork until smooth, then add the peanut butter and egg. Mix everything together well, and once combined, add this mixture to the bowl with the flours and continue mixing until you have a smooth batter. Then pour the batter into baking pans and bake for 15-20 minutes.

These three healthy dog biscuit recipes are very easy and quick to make. To give them a festive touch, you can use cookie cutters or decorate them with plain yogurt and gelatin. Here's how:

For the frosting you will need:

-       1 cup of Greek or plain yogurt without sugar or additives.

-       1 tablespoon of unflavored gelatin or gelatin powder.

-       2 to 3 tablespoons of warm water

To prepare, in a small bowl mix the gelatin with warm water until there are no lumps, then let it sit for a minute. It's recommended that the yogurt be at room temperature so the gelatin doesn't affect its properties when added; therefore, let it come to room temperature first, then add the gelatin and whisk vigorously until you have a smooth and creamy mixture.

If you want to pipe the mixture, chill it in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes before using it. Remember to pipe the frosting onto cool or room-temperature cookies so it doesn't melt. And once decorated, return them to the refrigerator.

These are natural recipes that do not contain preservatives, so the cookies should be consumed within 4 days and always kept in the refrigerator.
